M3 Land & Cattle
Oklahoma's first and largest registered Irish Blacks and Reds Breeder
M3 Land & Cattle is a family owned and operated cattle operation located just outside of Henryetta,OK. Ian Miller started his ranching career as a working cowboy in 1992 after serving in the United States Marine Corps. Ian worked on small and large cattle operations in California, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. In 1999 Ian returned to college to finish his degree in Agricultural Business and Animal Science.
In 2000 Ian and his father (Herbert Miller) started a partnership running cattle which eventually became M3 Land & Cattle. The cross bred cows were bred to Lasater Foundation bulls and heifers were retained to start what became the original M3 Cows. The cattle were primarily run on privately owned leased ground in the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills of California. Upon Herbert Millers death in 2004, M3 Land & Cattle consisted of Carole Miller (Ian's mother), Ian Miller and Jessica Harter (Ian's fiancé)
After Ian And Jessica married in 2005 everyone agreed that M3 Land & Cattle needed to break away from being dependent on leased ground. The Miller's purchased the Three Twins Ranch outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico. They moved their entire cattle operation there in 2006. The Three Twins was a desert operation which ran approximately 6 cows to a section (640 acres). In 2007 M3 Land & Cattle expanded by purchasing an additional ranch located about an hour north of The Three Twins. The Derrick Draw Ranch was located just outside of Hagerman, NM. The heifers from Three Twins were grown out on the Derrick Draw and then bred back to Lasater Foundation Beefmaster Bulls.
Wanting to cut out the "middle man" and the desire to follow cattle to the rail, M3 Land & Cattle decide to sell the Three Twins and lease wheat pasture in the Texas panhandle. In 2009 Ian and Jessica moved outside of Lubbock Texas and started leasing wheat pasture. Their son Justin (19) stayed in New Mexico and managed the Derrick Draw ranch while attending community college in Roswell, NM.
In 2010 Ian was asked to apply for the manager position on the Lasater Ranch in Matheson Colorado; "Home of the Foundation Herd of Beefmasters". Ian, Jess and their 2 year old daughter Abbey moved to Matheson. Ian managed, consulted and helped to put on the 2010 annual "Foundation" bull sale. In 2011, Ian and Jess decided to return to New Mexico to run the Derrick Draw Ranch and Justin transferred to Pan Handle State University in Guymon, Oklahoma. Ian still consults and helps to occasionally market cattle for Dale Lasater.
In 2011, the Derrick Draw Ranch and much of the South West was involved in a severe drought. After 2 years of continuous drought and a cow herd dwindling, Ian and Jess decided to keep the cows they had (now 100% home grown Beefmasters) and relocate to greener pastures.
In 2012 M3 Land & Cattle relocated to Oklahoma. Hitchita, Oklahoma and the Triple Hills Ranch is where Ian, Jess, Justin, Abbey, Harley & Riley now call home.M3 Land & Cattle today consists of Ian & Jessica Miller & their children. They run purebred commercial Beefmaster cows and a registered Irish Black & Red herd.
M3 Land & Cattle takes pride in raising there cattle with very little outside supplementation. They run their farm/ ranch using a holistic natural approach to ranching.
