M3 Land & Cattle
In 2000 Ian and his dad (Herbert Miller) along with Jessica Harter started M3 Land & Cattle. They started with cross
bred cows and Lasater Bulls from Matheson, Colorado. The Cattle were primarily being run on privately owned leased ground in the Central Valley and the Bay area of California. M3 Land & Cattle chose Lasater Beefmaster Bulls because they wanted to build the M3 herd by retaining heifers. Lasater Foundation Bulls were the answer. Upon Herbert Millers death in 2004, M3 Land & Cattle consisted of Carole Miller (Ian's mother), Ian Miller and Jessica Harter.
After Ian And Jessica married in 2005 everyone agreed that M3 Land & Cattle needed their own ranch. The Miller's purchased the Three Twins Ranch outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico. They moved their entire cattle operation there in 2006.
The Three Twins was a desert operation which ran approximately 6 cows to a section (640 acres). In 2007 M3 Land & Cattle expanded by purchasing an additional ranch. The Derrick Draw Ranch was located outside of Hagerman, NM. The heifers from Three Twins were grown out on the Derrick Draw and then bred back to Lasater Foundation Beefmaster Bulls.
Wanting to cut out the "middle man" and the desire to follow cattle to the rail, M3 Land & Cattle decide to sell the Three Twins and lease wheat pasture in the Texas panhandle.
In 2009 Ian and Jessica moved outside of Lubbock Texas and started leasing wheat pasture. Their son Justin (19) stayed in New Mexico and managed the Derrick Draw ranch while attending community college in Roswell, NM.
In 2010 Ian was asked to apply for the manager position on the Lasater Ranch in Matheson Colorado; "Home of the Foundation Herd of Beefmasters". Ian, Jess and their 2 year old daughter Abbey moved to Matheson. Ian managed, consulted and helped to put on the 2010 annual "Foundation" bull sale.
In 2011, Ian and Jess decided to return to New Mexico. Ian still consults and helps market cattle for Dale Lasater.
In 2011, the Derrick Ranch and much of the South West entered into a severe drought. After 2 years of continuous drought and a cow herd dwindling, Ian and Jess decided to keep the cows they had (75-100% home grown Beefmasters) and relocate to greener pastures.
In 2013, M3 Land & Cattle relocated to Oklahoma. Hitchita, Oklahoma and the Triple Hills Ranch is where Ian, Jess, Justin (24), Abbey (6), Harley (3), & Riley (1) now call home.
After a lot of research, M3 Land & Cattle have started a new endeavor raising purebred registered Irish black/red cattle. Justin Miller is in his final year at OPSU and pursuing riding saddle broncs in the PRCA.
M3 Land & Cattle today consists of Ian & Jessica Miller & their children. They run purebred commercial Beefmaster cows and a registered Irish Black & Red herd.
M3 Land & Cattle takes pride in taking a holistic approach to ranching and farming. We are concerned about our environment. We want to help protect it and improve it.
